JEWISH FOOD and RECIPES

Jewish traditional recipes include foods for weekdays and foods that are eaten on special occasions such as Jewish holidays, Shabbat, weddings and other family celebrations. An increasingly concern for healthier food has led to the development of a "new Jewish cuisine"; it maintains the old traditions and suits them to the tastes of new generations. Modern Jewish cooking includes many recipes that were inspired by other ethnic cuisines - Asian, Italian, Indian, French etc. which were adapted to the needs of Jewish tradition.

With a growing global interest in ethnic food, traditional Jewish recipes have become ever more popular with Jews and non-Jews alike. Some traditional Jewish foods were long ago adopted by food enthusiasts and connoisseurs from all over the world and have became an integral part of the culinary heritage of other cultures as well.

I NEVER EAT BURGERS. You never know whats in them - pigs ears and rats' toenails. This recipe uses good beef only.

Burgers & Chopped Salad
2 Chuck Steak - remove all visible fat
1 Onion
Breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tblspoon parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon mild mustard
Ground Cumin
Salt & pepper

Method
Cut steak into cubes and place in blender. Blend until meat is minced. Don't overdo it.
Place minced meat into bowl and mix in all ingredients. Add enough breadcrums to get the right consistency.

Chips
Preheat oven to 230 deg C.
Cut potatoes into thick wedges and par boil chips for 7 mins.
Toss into a pan with oilive oil, garlic cloves (whole), just to lightly coat chips.
Optional - I normally dust the chips with a spicy mix of ground lemon zest, salt and fresh rosemary.

Chopped Salad
Chop all the ingredients but not finely. They should all be chunky.
Cos lettuce
Cucumber
Onion
Tomato
Drizzle with French type dressing.

And that's the healthiest burger meal you could wish for! Posted by Picasa
